It was exciting to see how many people responded to the S.O.S. campaign at El Tule beach this last Sunday morning! Our colleague Gabriela Velazquez from the Coldwell Banker Riveras Cabo San Lucas office brings us the inside scoop from the event.
The event that congregated over 8000 people at El Tule beach on the Sea of Cortes, has one particular purpose in mind: to express our desire to make Baja California Sur a state free of toxic open pit mining activity. Foreign companies are interested in subtracting gold from the Sierra de La Laguna area, which is the one source of water to all residents in the area. The pollution it will cause will have a negative effect in our ecosystem and in our daily lives, for it is why we are against it.
I am not from the area, but my daughter Regina and I have formed a home in here in the past 8 years. We love the views, the nature, the ocean and we want the area to remain as it is, a paradise, for many more years to come. And that is why, together with other 8444 people dressed in green we formed an enormous human S.O.S at El Tule. Families and friends were there to support the cause in a really well organized event, and we are certain our governors will take the decision that will best suit our needs and the area’s.
