One of the great things about my job is working with people who have always, in different ways, made me grow. And what a better way to spend your day than on a road trip with them! This time, we jumped into a car and headed to Elias Calles and Cerritos, with the always blue Pacific Ocean greeting us at our left. Our itinerary included a brief stop in several homes, lots and ranches available in the area, all of them from our own inventory. Once we had charged ourselves with provisions (a delicious steaming cup of coffee) our little adventure begun.

My Sales Associates colleagues from the San Jose and Cabo San Lucas offices and I arrived at our first stop, Luna Baja, where the Todos Santos team was already waiting for us. Luna Baja is an ecological development with 2 and 3 bedroom cabañas, a common pool, organic garden and other interesting features. With prices starting at $59,000 USD, this is a great buy for a weekend getaway with your friends and family.

Moving on we went to Casa de Mar y Sol within Rancho Nuevo, the newest listing from the Todos Santos office. What I liked about the property was the entry… a welcoming courtyard with access to the main living areas and the hall to the bedrooms. Nice patio with pool, BBQ area and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Ocean. At $512,000 USD it is a great deal!

We continued our tour to several other properties, including Beachfront Estate, Cerritos Best Buy Lot, Big Sur Baja and Highway Frontage South Pescadero (among many more) to make a final stop at Cerritos Surf Colony. My last visit to Cerritos Beach was a couple of years ago, so I really didn’t know what to expect. What a pleasant surprise I had when we arrived! Nice cabañas overlooking the ocean, a fresh breeze so characteristic of the area and a beautiful poolside area waiting for us!

The developer of the complex gave us a tour where we saw the different cabañas available: spacious interiors blend perfectly with a Mexican décor allowing the owner to enjoy the area in the most comfortable way.

The Cerritos Surf Colony comprises several 1, 2, 3 & 4 bedrooms cabañas fully furnished and the construction of a fitness center due to begin shortly. With an unbeatable location in a safe swimmable beach, this is probably the best option to own a worry-free home in Cerritos.

Our tour ended not before enjoying a truly Mexican lunch. The constant soothing sound of the waves, as well as the refreshing breeze made us forget we were working! It indeed was a fine working day outside the office.

The one that went away

I am a very meticulous and detailed oriented person: from the start of finding your dream home or property to the completion of the buying and closing process, I don´t like surprises and always try to think ahead for unexpected surprises to be ready to address them. The same holds true when I go fishing, as it is my number one passion in my free time. I am always making sure all my gear is kept clean, neat and all knots are checked and double checked, as losing a fish to my failure is not an option I easily accept.

Recently, my sister, her boyfriend Dominic and my nieces visited me and we enjoyed a weeklong stay at the Punta Pescadero Hotel. On the first day, Dominic asked me if I would take him out for some big Tuna, “oh yea” was my immediate response, and two days later we were off to a fine fishing day.

We were one of the first boats out and the second on in the fleet to hook up to a monster tuna (my reel had 60lb test and I had 80lb leader with a live Zebra on as bait). Once I set the hook, the chase was on! “ZZZZZZZZZZZZ” was the most common sound over the next 4hrs with this fish nearly taking all the line plenty of times. As we hit the 6 hour mark the reality set in that this fish was still fresh and we might have another 3 or 4 hours if we wanted to land it, no problem for me or my captain Mundo, but there were others to think about. I had promised my sister we would be back in time to enjoy a nice dinner out and we still had a long drive back to the hotel, too much to think about with the immediate task at hand.

Let’s cut to the chase. At the 7 hour mark, there were too choices: a) cut the line, which is NEVER an option or b) tighten the drag and try to muscle the big boy in, or “sweet Loreen” as I was beginning to call her… So the drag was the choice, and at first, it seemed that she was coming up from the deep, and then down again. Tighten the drag again and the poll was almost touching end to end. First one eye ring slipped to the side then the next popped off the pole, and then a third… and yes, you guessed it snap goes the line. I have not been able to get out into the tuna grounds again as of yet, but have relived every moment of the fight and lost plenty of sleep while doing it. Nonetheless, the excitement of being out in the sea, doing what I love, is something I look forward constantly.

The same happens in my real estate career. Whenever I meet new clients and prospective buyers, I devote all my energy and knowledge to address all their needs and help them along the way. Since I live, work and enjoy this Baja California Sur paradise, I couldn’t ask for more!

What is new in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose today?  

It is great to be in the Los Cabos area now; we can feel the elliptical motions of our earth through our change in weather! From a hot summer to a refreshing autumn, there is no need for the A/C at home or in our automobiles, which equals less gas and electricity to help our beloved planet.  Plus, thanks to the rain a few weeks ago, our hills and mountains are totally green! Yes!  The desert is blooming and the contrast with the blue horizon is strikingly beautiful.

Once again, the never-ending fishing attraction in Cabo is here: the international Bisbee’s Black & Blue . This year there are a total of 103 boats participating from United States, Japan, Italy, Brazil, Costa Rica, Russia and Ukraine, among other countries. You can stop by the Cabo Marina today (the last day) and participate in this fiesta with all the tourists, locals and anglers… and if you’re lucky, you might get to see one of the “catch of the day”. Yesterday, an incredible 484 lb black marlin was presented at the weighting scale by the 10 Brothers Fishing Team, from Chicago. They were on the Dream Weaver boat and claimed the fishing prize of the day. But if you are not into fishing, there are many more fun activities you can do in the area, such as golfing, parasailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and sunbathing.
